Prestige Points (PP)
In order for Frank to level up, he must collect Prestige Points (PP) by performing certain acts such as rescuing survivors, taking photographs, defeating zombies and psychopaths, along with many other different actions.
Leveling Up
As Prestige Points (PP) are earned, the PP bar under Frank's life gauge will increase allowing him to level up once it becomes full.
Stats
While leveling up Frank's stats will increase randomly throughout a certain level range. He will be able to take off more damage, run faster, live longer, carry more items, and throw items further. Below is a list of his starting stats for Lv 1:
Attack: 1/7
Speed: 0/3
Life: 4/12
Item Stock: 4/12
Throw Distance: 1/5
When Frank reaches level 50, everything will be maxed out.

Offensive Move
New to VF5 is Offensive Move (OM), a move that can quickly close in the distance to your opponent in a diagonal direction towards the side of their body. It is the fastest and often potentially rewarding way to move on the ring in a lateral direction (into or out of the screen). By using the optional P or K button attack during OM, you can hit the opponent on their sides, potentially granting you a side crumple for big damage. OM is executed by tapping up or down, then P+K+G. Unlike DM, use OM when you are in an advantaged situation, since it’s generally not a good idea to use OM to avoid an incoming attack.
All Range Movement
Instead of using dashes to adjust your position and distancing, sometimes you want only minor adjustments. This is when you use All Range Movement (ARM) to move around the ring. By holding any direction (except down, which is executed by double tapping down and hold after the second tap) you can slowly walk in that direction. Depending on your character, the speed of ARM will differ. For characters with faster ARM, it’s is possible to back away from your opponent’s attack in certain situations. For instance, you can use ARM to tweak your position after you knockdown an opponent, to make their rising attack miss, or to move yourself away from the edge of the ring. Be mindful that moving laterally with ARM will not evade attacks in the same way as DM.
Mixing up your Movement
It is possible to combine multiple movements into one series of complex movements. Let’s take a look at the rule for combining movements.
Dash -> DM
DM -> Dash or Crouch Dash
DM -> OM
Take note that DM is the key to combining movements. So for example, you can do Dash->DM->Dash repeatedly, or you can do Dash -> DM -> Crouch Dash. By doing multiple movements in a series, you can make yourself harder to hit, quickly move around the ring, or confuse your opponent. The video above will show some examples of how to combine these movements. It’s a very good idea to train your hands to execute the common series that you see in the video.

Some Moves & Hints on March 26, 2007
General Use of Dash
In VF5, you should constantly move around, to match the rhythm of the match, and to keep an optimal distance relative to your opponent, depending on your play-style and your character. Move quickly towards your opponent to attack, and move out of the way before a counterattack. In general, stay at a distance where you can connect most of your best attacks from their maximum range. Also, don't be so far away that you can’t get into your opponent’s face without doing multiple dashes.
General Use of Crouch Dash
With crouch dashes, you are moving in a crouched state, making it possible to move under high attacks. In addition, for many characters in VF5, some of their best moves can only be executed from a crouched state. By using crouch dashes, you can put yourself instantly into a crouched state to execute these attacks. Due to the threat of these attacks, you can effectively use crouch dashes to close in on your opponent in an aggressive manner.
Defensive Move
Commonly referred by most players as either DM or dodge/evade, a term carried over from VF4. DM is used when you are too close to your opponent to avoid their attacks with dashes or crouch dashes. This situation will happen fairly often because your opponent is actively trying to put himself in an advantageous position as you are. To execute a DM, simply tap up or down during the execution of your opponents attacks. If you try to execute DM when your opponent is not attacking, you will perform a failed evade, a state where you cannot block an incoming attack for a brief period of time. So try to use DM only when you are anticipating your opponent's attack, or when you are in a disadvantaged situation. DM has very important applications in the advanced defensive techniques, which we will talk about in the defense section.
