The game from Beggining to end is pure excitement. The story is good, the gameplay is good, and the visuals are good.

First of all... As soon as the game was out it PS3 users started complainig how the game was freezing a lot, being unable to continue the game. Makes you wonder if this happens to so many people (Includin me) how did it get a 10/10 in IGN... After hoping for a fix from rockstar and getting squat. I Returned the game to wallmart, go tmy money back, and said Good Riddance.

YES, I have experienced that so called "LOCKUP" too. But only when the game was starting, it wouldn't load. I never had any freezes during the actual gameplay. I even deleted all the game data, didn't work, I completely reformatted my PS3's HDD, still didn't work. So after 4 hrs of messing around with the game, I finally asked one of my buddies and they said to sign out of Playstation Network, or just turn off your modem or unplug the Ethernet cable and it will work. Only to be metioned 3 days after the incident it was posted on web-sites. Thanks for the delay. I just wander how many people like me who reformatted thier HDD and lost all that hard earned game saves or who were working on the 100% completion to get that prize. Now, don't get me wrong, that really ticked me off. But thats not going to deter my eagerness to play the game, whith so much great reviews and anticipation. Anyways, the person that said they got thier money back from Wal-Mart, let me know what's your secret because every retailer known to man won't return games for cash if they have been opened. So either you have a very good friend or relative working there risking thier job, or you just won't admit to exchanging this game for THE SIMPSONS game or DORA THE EXPLORER.. EVERY game in exsistance has BUGS or GLITCHES. If you can't agree to that, then you need to talk to Dr. Phil and get help. Yes, it's sincerely annoying to pay $90 for a game and not work, but IT IS BRAND NEW and NOTHING in this world is perfect. I'm sure when Rockstar tested the game, they only had as many players as in thier offices, and not 3 to 10 million as in the world to test thier servers or whatnot. Games are rated OVERALL, not to Specifics. You can't complain to a car manufacturer because you bought a car rated at a "5-star" safety rating, but when it gets flattened because a Boing 747 landed on it, can you? It's an OVERALL rating. It's just a freak error and it happens.

Graphics - 2/10
Seriously, this game SORELY lacks graphical magic. About the only graphics you'll ever see in this game are explosions. Any building you can't go in, is clearly a paper cut-out as the door has no dimension to it, or the windows! Even Nico really doesn't look that much better than the character from GTA III.
Music - 5/10
The actual BGM(what little there is) does a fairly good job of adding to the story. But, the radio stations are repetitive and just not as entertaining anymore. Give us back "chat a radio"! Not the lame "WkII"
Sound - 9/10
The game does a great job with sound. I personally don't prefer all the language, but it's a "mature" game. The explosions sound great, and so do all the various mayhem sounds. Plus, they did a cool effect where your ears start ringing if you get too close to an explosion.
Gameplay - 3/10
The gameplay tries too hard to be realistic. It makes it really quite impossible for those of us who don't want to hit the brake when driving. I mean, in real life, sure, we have to. Lest we get in some sort of accident. But, in a game I'd rather not have those limitations placed on me. Hopefully a future cheat with "grip" will be found soon. The 'Dating' aspect really only leaves you with about six girls out of SO many girls that had a possibility to be dated. Another really limiting problem.
The missions are okay, they mainly just consist of stealing cars and/or shooting people up. They pertain to the story well, but that still doesn't change the fact that everything you do seems to turn to a shoot out.
Sadly, there are no real gangs in this game. Just some sort of mobsters that are strangely ALL Russian. It just seems strange to me that Russians are the only mobsters. Technically, by story, there are other "gangs", but there's no real gameplay mechanic to it.
A nice feature about gameplay is the "dating/going out with friends" feature. Although there are shortcomings even there. Since some of the "entertainment" you'll be experiencing you won't experience at all. It just goes like this: you walk in, screen goes black, image returns, you walk out. Then they say something about it. I've been told that the strip clubs are very interesting, but that's not really my thing.
Story - 8/10
It's a great story and all, but it's just too predictable. There wasn't a single point where I was like "didn't see that coming!" I did not beat the game by the way, but I've read what can happen (depending on your choices), and it seemed pretty obvious to me the outcome. I just was looking for something a little more entertaining and not so boring...But that's just my personal preferences speaking. I just found it way too predictable to even give a nine.
Overall - 5.4/10
I am quite happy that I only rented this game (and with free rentals at that). As it would have been a great waste of money for me. Overall, if you like realistic, depressing, dramatic storylines, then this game is for you.

Grand Theft Auto is one of the best games available for the PS3. Many people have started to critizize the game for freezing. They have now released a patch so that will no longer be a problem.
Length: 10/10
I have not yet beat the game and I have had it since the beginning of May. It will keep you very entertained.
Gameplay: 8/10
The game is very fun but, some missions seem to become repetitive. I played 5 missions in a row from 3 different people in the game and they all involved me hunting down somebody on a motorcycle and then gunning them down without letting them go away.
Music: 10/10
Many people will like the music. It has almost a dozen radio stations that will keep somebody entertained for a long time.
Story: 9/10
It is a very entertaining story that will keep you entertained and wanting not to skip any of the cutscenes. It will get confusing when you meet the 2 gay guys about midway.
Controls: 10/10
I have only played this GTA game and III. Ithought they have really improved their controls since then.
Glitches: 3/10
I have not yet gotten the patch because i did not see any problems until the bank robbery mission.
Overall: 9/10
I thought this was a great game overall and that they should keep making them


###SPOILER ALERT###

In 3 they showed a billboard for vice city and what do you know GTA VC. In this game they have showed a billboard for a place called Los Santos. This will not probably have Niko in it. There is also a passport shown on Rockstars website page for GTA that shows a passport for Niko from Liberty City To: ...wat for it.... San Andreas. So look for news on those 2 either this Fall/Winter or next Spring.

5 stars again - just like the rest

Grand theft auto has always been an awesome game to play - considering you're mentally able to handle the material in it!

I have no idea what the reviewers below are talking about. If you don't like this game, you probably don't like ANYTHING.

The graphics were awesome, gameplay was incredible, the storyline was very interesting, and it took awhile to beat so you get to play it for a long time.

The only bad things are the occassional glitch (you have to unplug your ethernet cable for some reason) and I still can't get online to play the multiplayer - which sucks pretty bad.

That's why I gave it a 4 - they should have been more aware that that problem would have happened.

But, overall - great game!

i dont own this game but i have watched thing about it and i read the other reviews and i was like WTF! purely over rated?!?!?!?!?! its not over rated! its excatly what game trailers say and ign and whitythereviewer from youtube.com its around a 9.8-10.0! and Vampko kun gave the grahpics a 2 out of 10?!!??!?! what the hell! the grahpics are freaking amazing better than gta sa! GTA IV is more realstic than any rockstar game!

Thanks to the 360 version it was a bit short because of DVD's puny 8.5 GB memory capacity. R* got lazy and didn't add more stuff to PS3's Blu-Ray discs.So in the end the PS3 version only took up 8.5 GBs of the hefty 50GB. To people who think it's short, u should blame the 360 version.

Not all it's cracked up to be

Got this game used from Gamestop just to see what all the hoopla was about this game. Granted I like some GTA games, but bought this because of the graphics they show on the commercials....Found out this game has great video's in it, but the gameplay is very lackluster. Personally I feel it has a very bad engine in the game when you wreck your car it seems as if your car is made out of rubber and then you just bounce everywhere....not the most entertaining game i have played, and I could deal without the lock-ups even with the updated installed on it.

This game is the best game of 2008 for the PS3. This might even be the best game of all time on the PS3, pending the release of the long awaited Resident Evil 5 or the upcoming God of War game for the PS3. A round of applause for the men and women at Rockstar who made this one. Can't wait for your next GTA idea.
