Masterful storytelling; A timeless classic

I have played all the way through the original game on the PS1, and have played the 'kiddie' version on the Gameboy Advance. If you are a fan of strategy RPG's, the simple fact is, that you need to get this game.

Not really a 'remake' of the original, it's more of a 'director's cut'. The translation has been completely redone. The dialogue is stiffly written, however it lends very well to the medieval feel of the game, and only helps to set itself apart. Major events are now FMV's, a sort of cell shaded lookr, mixed with that of a graphic novel. It works so amazingly well, but Ramza just looks downright odd sometimes. A small gripe.

The game is widescreen, and some 3D errors from the original game have been fixed. With the widescreen aspect, it looks very good, but sometimes the stages can feel kind of small, which is certainly deceptive.

A few new jobs, and smatherings of new events. A two-player ad-hoc ability, all make fine additions. If you have this on PS1, or have played through it recently, I can't really recommend this to you. It's still the same game. But if you haven't played it? Get it now.

For a 10 year old+ game, this game's story and tactical combat systems is still unmatched. It has a steep learning curve. Your astrological sign, if your male or female, all come into play. But not terribly much. It's more about the intricacies of the combat system.

They aren't afraid to kill off characters in the game, including main ones. People die left and right. This game has some of the most downcast storys ever in a video game, and it works well.

I have admittedly, only gotten to the 2nd chapter, so this isn't a full review. However, tihs game is worth the $40 if you haven't played it. If your a veteran, 30. If you find it for 20-30, you should buy it right away. It's popular, and a bargain. This game can eat up much of your time, as you quest to help Ramza on his ill-fated journey.
