Game Description

In an attempt to bring the tale of the war that almost destroyed the United States, the History Channel has brings us the strategy game Civil War: The Game. One interesting aspect of the game is that players get to decide whether they wish to fight with the Union or Confederate armies. They then plan their attacks and maneuvers in the battles much like a chess player maps out their strategies, and since it relies more on a player’s strategic thinking than the actual fight sequences, it is definitely aimed more at true blue Civil War buffs than general gamers. After choosing which side they wish to play, the player will have the opportunity to either play against the AI or engage in player to player combat. Unlike the actual Civil War, this game also allows players the chance to try and change the outcome of several historical battles in the Change History mode. This means that no matter which side the player chooses, they still have the ability to win the war, reversing history within the world of the game. Historically accurate clothing and weaponry help to add to the overall effect of the game. Three dimensional battle scenes and a vivid soundtrack make every battle intensely exciting. Another interesting feature is that since this game is being offered through the History Channel, it also provides players with trivia, a Civil War timeline, historical documents, and real pictures of the era.

This version of the The History Channel -- Civil War series was listed for release as "The History Channel -- American Civil War", but was never brought to market and is believed to not be planned for release.
