Not up to the Hype

It's fun at first, with Jack Sparrow's antics, but the combat gets WAY repetative and left me wanting a regular controller option. The graphics are not that good. Seems like the game is banking off the movie, so game play suffers. I've seen what the Gamecube can do, so the Wii should be able to at least match GC graphics...

Game falls short. Rent first.

I played for 5 minutes. I got the general idea of the entire game.

So one saturday afternoon, my dad walks in and he had finally managed to snag a Wii for me. And with it, he brought a couple games to go with it. Unfortunately, this game was one of those.

The moment I saw it, I knew I was in for a bad experience. I popped it in and began playing, at first it seemed ok. Learning the controls was fun as I figured out how to utilize the Wii Remote to slash my sword and how to properly use the three sidearms you get. Which include bombs, throwing knives and my personal favorite: the pistol.

I played for a good five minutes, and if there wasn't one thing I noticed immediately: it was that I was doing the exact same thing all the time. Everytime some enemy popped up; I'd be flailing the Wii Remote around like a monkey having a seizure. Occasionally stopping to shoot a gun, or throw a bomb.

And to distract you from the repetativeness for but a few bleak moments, you'd be able to help Jack out of some situation by performing what they so cleverly named a "jackanism" which just involved you flailing the Wii Remote in a certain direction, or pressing a specific button whenever it appeared onscreen. These jackanisms lasts for maybe a few short moments before you got back to the ol' slashin' n' hackin' that we love so very much.

I wish I could say that the graphics were at least good, but to be honest: They weren't. Considering that the game was on a next-gen system, you'd expect this field to be a bit more thrilling, but the graphics in this game can easily be done on PS2 or Gamecube. Unfortunately, they wouldn't be impressive on those systems either.

Go ahead and see the movie. But unless you are a hardcore fan and must, or if you are a robot who enjoys completely repetative tasks, do yourself a favor and avoid this game.
