Talking Gargoyles

So when you need to find the talking gargoyles for Dean Thomas, it takes forever if you don't know where they are. There are five of them. One on the viaduct, one in the paved courtyard( you have to cast reparo on the staircase and go all the way to the end of the walkway), One in the Transfiguration Courtyard, One on your way up to either the divination tower or Defense against the dark arts(I cant remember) and one on your way to the clock tower from the fifth floor.(right before you enter the clock tower, there will be an exit to your left, take it and you will be outside. go left and there is the gargoyle)
Protego

When dueling, use the spell Protego a lot, it will defend you against opponents spells, which will make you more likely to beat them. You can lose duels, which really sucks, but if you use protego, you win pretty much every time.
Shake the carpets and suits of armor

When you see a suit of armor that is not standing straight, cast repulso multiple times until the armor is properly standing, it usually takes three times with the armor striking different poses each time. Also, many rugs in the halls will produce points to level you up.
