One of the greatest Cube games, and my fav in the RE series by far!

Reviewed by jkat on September 03, 2006  |  report this review

Thank GOD they decided to revamp the RE series, especially the camera system. All of the changes present in RE4 are totally welcome, and make RE4 stand out in a crowded market of "survivor horror" titles as truly unique. The new camera system is placed behind the main player, where about half of the body is present on screen. The new aiming system (using a laser sight and no crosshair) is truly perfect, and adds to the realism of the game. Take away mindless zombines and replace with thinking "possessed" townsfolk in some back country European village, and you have an experience that is truly scarey! A solid fun thrilling 20+ hour ride in this game awaits!

I give 5 stars for the 5 great things about this game
1. graphics amazing on gamecube
2. story line, mysterious yet interesting
3. gameplay controls were perfect and behind the back shooting was a good view
4. length, I enjoyed this game for a while and then played it over again loving it.
5. For a Resident Evil, I played zero and thought it was pretty bad the control was bad and shooting was horrible I have not played others (I want the rebirths) so I don't know if they are same

The Best Resident Evil...

Reviewed by AdamMiettinen on September 11, 2006  |  report this review

...and the best GameCube game. It is a bit of a sidestory in the overall Resident Evil storyline, not tying in excessively with the main plot. However for me this was a draw, since I find the actual Resident Evil plot incredibly stupid.

The gameplay is fantastic. The camera is one of the best in any third person shooter, the shooting controls work great, and the game doesn't force you to fumble with a second analog stick. Everything about the way Leon (the main character you control) moves is perfectly tuned to provide challenging and often cool-looking gameplay. You can shoot projectiles out of the air, smash through windows, and perform split-second dodges with context-sensitive actions. These context-sensitive actions are a great way that RE4 managed to diversify the gameplay and the number of moves Leon can pull off without bogging down the control scheme.

Presentation-wise, this game takes the crown for the GameCube, and is a contender for the entire current generation. The graphics are excellent, and a lot was pulled off on the GC hardware -- although the graphics aren't as technically impressive as they seem at a glance, it's very difficult to notice and the overall effect is very, very solid. Everything contributes to a great game atmosphere.

If you don't own this game, go pick it up for the PS2 or Cube. I personally recommend the Cube version, because the controls are superior, but you will also get some great extras for the "complete experience" on the PS2. Your pick.

Superb

Reviewed by Nintendragon on September 12, 2006  |  report this review

This is by far the most immersive of the Resident Evil games. Many aspects of the series were entirely reworked in this entry into the series.

The viewpoint is 3rd person and over-the-shoulder. While this may sound kind of odd to those that have not played it yet, it's a very welcome change to the tank-like control style of the past Resident Evil titles.

The graphics are controversially the best on the Gamecube to date. Everything is much more rich and detailed than anything else on Gamecube, with the possible exception of the Metroid Prime series.

The story line is completely enthralling! I found myself hooked on it so much, that it had me playing it every single day after school until I had it completed. The game follows Leon Kennedy, a character well known to those who have played Resident Evil 2, and a member of the Raccoon City Police Department.

The game is a pretty lengthy one, but it's definitely worth it. I would say it will take most people about 13 - 20 hours to clear, depending on their skill and/or desire to explore everywhere.

Overall, Resident Evil 4 is what I would consider the game of the year for 2005, easily. There was nothing that I felt compared to it's immersion, fun, and innovations. I recommend that everyone, RE fan or not, to play it.

Amazing game!

RE4 is one of those games that hooks you in right away and makes you want to play forever. Right from the opening intro sequence, you suddenly feel the fear of being Leon walking around in a foreign place.

Everything about this game was perfect, from the stunning graphics that truly showcase what the Gamecube is capable of, to the sound and the controls - the game is absolutely stunning. Not only that, but it provides a solid 20+ hour play though numerous beautiful landscapes.

I was initially hesitant when I first bought this game, because I'd always found Resident Evil games to be too difficult (because I'd run out of ammo). However, I read a number of extremely positive reviews, so I figured I should give the game a chance. It is now one of my favorite games for the Gamecube, along side the Metroid Prime games.

The BEST game on Cube

Reviewed by lvin5992 on November 03, 2006  |  report this review

If you have a Game Cube and you complain about the lack of good games, Resident Evil 4 will change your mind. This game has one of the best twisted stories I have ever heard. Graphics; this game looks amazing, for a Game Cube game it looks like an early Xbox 360 game. Gameplay; this game revolutionized the way that that the Resident Evil series is played. The game looks and plays like an actual movie. Sound; it can scare you like crazy, the developers of this game has made sure that the player can hear every little sound, one of the best things about this game is the sound of the zombies coming at you, it really scares you for real. This game is the BEST game on Game Cube and one of the best games of ALL TIME. I definetly recomend getting the Cube version on the site because it is COMPLETLY worth it.

If you play one horror-survival game, make it this one. The atmosphere is creepy as all get-out, the action is fun and frantic, and there's nothing as satisfying as setting zombie-things on fire. The storyline is long and engaging and takes you through a wide variety of creepy areas, but the best feature is the number of interactive cinematic sequences you run into. These pop up at key points, such as when you are running from a boulder and must rapidly push the correct sequence of buttons, or when your character is in a high-speed knife fight and must defend himself. If you miss your timing in these sequences, you'll discover the other great feature of this game: the number of different ways there are to die. I've counted over 70 different scripted death-sequences that your poor character can end up in, and all of them are appropriately varied and gruesome.

If you still own a gamecube, get this game immediately.
Not like the previous Resident Evil games.

Definately the best Gamecube ever

Reviewed by coolguy_21 on January 18, 2007  |  report this review

Unlike most of the other Resident Evil games, Capcom ramped up the camera so it doesn't stay at corners and such, and it rocks. Everything has been revamped to unleash the full power of the Gamecube, and man, is it definately the best Gamecube game made to date. The graphics are topnoche, with the environment looking really detailed and making the blood and gore fun to watch. I would also like to add that this game is very gory, like the most goriest game i have ever played. The sound is also excellent. You will definately be scared if you play this game at night. The scary sounds definately scared me at times, ad im sure you will too. The gameplay has never been more fun. You go around and kill zombie like people. You hold the right trigger and press A to shoot to shoot. Sounds easy enough right? Well, because of the intelligent AI in this game, the zombie-like people will be smart and try to get to surround you if you are in a house. Sometimes if you hold the right trigger to long, they will try to dodge it. There's so much more i could write about this game, and this is way too long as well, but this game is definately worth picking up, but if your not into this kind of games, then try it anyways, it'll rock your world.

RE4 great game!

Reviewed by Cricket_31 on March 28, 2007  |  report this review

RE4 separated itself from all the other RE games. You where able to free aim, and there weren't any awkward camera angles like the other RE games. The enemies are a lot smarter and work together and not to mention they speak spanish. LOL! This game contains violence and gore just like all the other RE games. If you haven't played RE4 or are a fan of the RE series then I would strongly suggest you get this game.

This game is amazing! It takes the legendary survival horror series and greatly improves the action, CONTROL, and graphics, in turn making the game almost perfect. It even made its own new genre in the process: 3rd person action adventure survival horror shooter. yea; it has everything a gamer could ask for.

Would be amazing if not a Resident evil game.

Reviewed by hugedouche321 on July 21, 2007  |  report this review

For a person who has not played the other Resident Evils, this game is nearly flawless. A great shooter game with thrilling action lurking around ever corner. Great graphics, scary monsters, and a deep storyline make this an absolutely incredible game. However, this is hardly a traditional Resident Evil game. I feel as if the puzzles had been severly dumbed down and put there simply to amuse the Resident Evil fans. This is the first Resident Evil game that I've played that requires little if any thinking. A major part of the appeal of the Resident Evil series is using logic to work your way through the game. However, this game is mostly non-stop action. While this is an amazing game I feel that if I wanted a pure shooter game I would have bought James Bond. Despite this, I would definetly recommend this game to anyone who has not played it. This is a very unique and visually stunning game.

Resident Evil 4 has to definitely be one of the best games ever made. The graphics are amazing and just a little worse than xbox 360 graphics. The storyline has countless twists and turns, and the challenges will keep you playing for hours on end. The aiming with a laser is excellent, and there is an enormous variety of weapons. If you do not own this game, go out and buy it. You won't regret it.
