This game, simply put, is fantastic. It's the first traditional mario game to come out in 10 years, and the 2D/3D hybrid graphics are gorgeous. It has a great single player, fun multiplayer and even the fun minigames from SMB64DS.
You can't go wrong getting this game. If you have a DS, you need to own it.

Yes, this game is great... But my problem with this game is the fact that Nintendo watered down the difficulty on this game... It takes less then a week to complete the game, then another week to get and beat the unlockable worlds and such... But it does have its good points...
1.Its a Mario game
2.At times it will make you want to rip your hair out
3.Multiplayer
After you finish the game, the minigame mode will keep you busy for a while... I love the fact that they included Multiplayer Mini-games... Using Download of course...
This game is good for any fans of Mario... But be warned, you will not be challanged...

I loved this game. Brought me back to the NES days. Only problem I have with the game: its too short. I think I beat the game in a week. Multiplayer is the most addicting part of the game. Get a friend, and play some minigames with him/her. Before you know it, it's 2 hours later.
Pros:
-Platforming at its best
-Addicting
-The usual Mario secrets are present
-Multiplayer is AWESOME
Cons
-Too Short
-Even though it got hard at some points, a relatively easy game
Fabuloso!

I love the game! It took me back to a time when Mario was just growing up in this technological world of today. He's now all fancy in 3D instead of looking like a flat digital picture, which looks great.
I love the levels. A couple of them were a challenge for me (I'll admit I died quite a few times when I first started out), but like any other Mario Bros. game, your lives never run out completely O_o
The new features are fun, too. Growing extremely big is great -- smashing everything in sight is delight for any gamer -- and shrinking to bug-size let's you get into the tiniest of places (and see the smallest of secrets).
All-in-all, this game is (in girl's terms) fabuloso!

Great game! It's nice to play some classic platforming once in a while. Only gripe I have about this game is that it doesn't flow like the classic games. In older games you could run through a level, ducking and dodging. In NSMB, enemies and traps seem to be placed just so, so that if you try to run full speed through a level, you die. That's only a small complaint though. That, and It's too short. I just hope they make a New Super Mario Bros 2 based on super mario bros 2.
Good stuff here

I finished the game in about 2 days. Couldn't put it down. The graphics were great and making Mario big or small was pretty fun too. The downside was that it felt too short, but that was probably because I played it for two days straight! Don't miss out on this game.
Not just great by handheld standards, great by all standards.

For some reason, from the previews I had read of this game, I expected the old Super Mario World game with a couple of new levels and some new abilities. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that New Super Mario Bros. is an all-new game. And it rocks.
This game has everything we love about the Mario games and still manages to add more. In my opinion, it ranks in the top 3 among all Mario games. I really didn't expect it to look and sound so good or be so darned addictive. The dual-screen and touch aspects work very well. Really, my only complaint is that the bosses are extremely easy. If you have the fireball powerup, every boss battle is over within 5 seconds. The levels are challenging however, so that makes up for the the bosses quite a bit.
Not to be overlooked are the mini-games. GameSpot might not think much of them, but there are a few that are very good in their own right. I defy anybody to play the game under the variety category where you use a slingshot to shoot down parachuting bombs and not get hooked.
I highly recommend this game. If you are a DS owner, you should not be without it.

There are some drawbacks to this game, I can't quite point any fingers, but something didn't feel right.
As soon as you first play this game, you will be sucked right into a time warp back to 1985. For the uneducated, this is when the original Super Mario Bros was released. The gameplay is similar, with updated graphics of course.
The dual screens felt too much like a gimmick, didn't like that I had to take a hand off of the gameplay buttons to touch a powerup.
All in all, fun game. Should be in everyone's collection. For some reason I would still recommend the original Super Mario Bros over this one. For those who don't know, you can purchase the GBA version of Classic Super Mario Bros. (even has the minus world).
For what it's worth, I actually prefer the GBC version that had extra features included with Super Mario Bros. I believe the title had "DX" in it. Excellent purchase.

There are only a few franchises in the gaming industry that you can name drop and everyone, instantly, knows exactly what you mean. It's like Tetris, or it's a Doom clone, or, in many cases for handheld games, it's a pale shadow of Super Mario Bros. These practically need no introduction, and New Super Mario Bros. continues that proud tradition.
Other than porting over some of the plumber's moves from Super Mario 64 (butt stomp, wall jump and triple jump), this plays just like the classics you remember. There are eight worlds, divided into separate stages that contain power-ups, hidden exits and a bevy of colorful enemies to stomp on. At the end of each level, there's even a flagpole to scale, just like the original NES game that inspired an entire generation of gamers and developers.

One of the most fun games I've played in a while. You can grow to a giant and stomp your way through part of a level or you can get a small mushroom and get into secret areas, and even turn into a duck! Many hours of replay value, fun mini games, cool graphics and animation make this game a must have.

The novelty of playng the first true Mario platformer in ten years quickly wears off due to lack of style. For a franchise now almost completely based on nostalgia, the developers irritatingly decided to dump a good portion of the creative, interesting Mushroom Kingdom enemies of Mario's heyday in favor of the uninspired polygonal baddies from Mario 64. Level designs are simple and ugly and music is annoying to the point of nausea.
One partiularly annoying fact about this game, especially for fans, is that its title is New Super Mario BROS but you can only play as Luigi through use of a secret code (and most new players won't recieve the code until first completing the game.) This, along with a few other Mario blasphemies (spoiler: Bowser dies on the first stage) make this game feel like Nintendo was half asleep in the production.
To its credit, the multiplayer VS mode is competitive and entertaining. If they had expanded on it, maybe included a 2-player cooperative mode like everyone wanted, I wouldn't have detested this game so.
The plumber is back with style.

New Super Mario Bros takes you back to the original 2d super mario games. The graphics are updated and feel kind of 3d, which is really fun to look at.
Game play on original mode is short but sweet. Its easy to skip past levels and even two worlds and get to the end in just a few hours. I found that once I had beat it, going back and playing the levels I skipped wasn't interesting.
I was dissapointed in the power-ups. There was no leaf of or cape or flying device of any kind. NSMB gives you special power ups including mega mushroom and koopa shell which I found to be interesting, but in no way were they necessary to complete the game.
The mini games included are very good and make interesting use of the touch screen. There is one where you have to draw trampolines for mario to bounce off of and one where you frantically sort ba-bombs faster and faster using the stylus.
Overall, I felt that NSMB was fun, but sort of unsatisfying. It was just too easy to get really excited about.

This game is a blast to play! It was so addictive and fun, that I beat it in two days. Now, that’s good, but bad. It shows that the game is really fun, but it also shows that it’s pretty easy (or that I’m an awesome gamer). The music is classic mario and it sound very good, and the graphics are spectacular for a portable mario game. The multiplayer games are fun, and the versus mode kept me busy with my cousin for quite a while. If you’re looking for a hard adventure game, this isn’t for you, but if you want a true Mario game that has everything it needs, Get this.

This game is awesome to start with. It goes by the classic game style a lot, but with new twists like the giant shroom which you turn to a giant almost the size of the screen and smash through anything in your way (who doesnt like to smash throught everything?) and other new power-ups like the blue turtle shell, this one makes you like a Koopa and when you run you go into your shell and spin and whoever you hit gets hurt like what happens when a Koopa does it to you. The only weak points I really had was the game wasn't nearly long enough with only 4-6 hours of gameplay. So all in all I give this game a 7 outta 10
Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something... blue?

New Super Mario Bros. The name itself implies that its a totally new game based on an old game. This time around, Mario returns to his 2D platform jumping roots. You know, that time when mushrooms made Mario grow bigger, coins game him extra lives and stars made him invinsible for a short while. Times when Koopa Troopas were bad. Times were flowers gave him the ability to throw fireballs. Yeah, those times are back with New Super Mario Bros.
This is a good game filled with clever level design and old-school time of gameplay combines with more recent techniques. The graphics are nice and colorful, and the sound is pretty much what you'd expect from a Mario game: catchy background music, annoying voice samples from Mario, and lots of classic sounds from the older Mario games. The controls are pretty much a throwback to the old days. There's a run button and a jump button, and then there's the + pad to move. That's pretty much it.
My complain with this game is that its just too easy. I mean way too easy. There are stuff here and there that are challenging for sure. But for the most part I never felt a big challenge from the game. Perhaps one of the things that contribute to this are the fact that Mario has more moves like wall jumping and butt stomping that he didn{t have before. But still, it doesnt feel like the stages were created with enough challenge.
But despite of that, this is a game that no Mario fan should miss. Something old becomes new again. You must play it.

It may be called New Super Mario Bros., but the gaming is still the same. SMBDS64 and this game were brought back to life for all of the younger gamers. There great games but the original were better. And because this game is more modern it took away my favorite aspect of games... exposing the glitches.Speed runs were always one of my favorite things to do in a game. Despite the fact that a speed run is now more than an hour long, the mini games that are included and the muti-player almost even it out.Other than that it's a slightly below awesome game.
