Very disappointing

Reviewed by HungryWolf on September 15, 2006  |  report this review

I couldn't wait for this game to come out. I can't remember how long I waited, but it had to have been over a year. The game sounded incredible, just the things you could do, the freedom you had over your character, and the effects that happened over time. It just sounded like a grade A RPG.

But it wasn't. When it came out after tons of delays, much of the game that was promised wasn't even in it. Many of the key reasons that made Fable different from any other RPG weren't finished so they just took them out completely.

Aside from this, the visuals are nice, and there are still other things that are nice additions, however it just isn't what it should be. The story is boring and short, and it just wasn't fun overall. Probably one of the most disappointing games ever.

meh....buy Fable: The Lost Chapters instead

The main problem with this game is that it was rushed before it was ready to be released. The control and style was awesome, but you could notice that there were things that were pulled.

The Lost Chapters is actually the same game just with all the extras actually finished. Don't try this.

Great RPG

Fable is a great RPG. Lots of fun especially if you enjoy Zelda type games. However, if you have the oppurtunity just buy lost chapters instead so you have all the extra stuff. Overall, a sweet game.

Fable had promise. Oh yes, lots of promise. The hype and the way it was presented made it sound to be THE GROUNDBREAKING RPG. The wait was killer and when I finally got my hands on the game...the disappointment alone could have killed me. The graphics are not to bad but could have been better on the characters. The story line wasnt as free form as I thought it would be. The "choices" that would change everything, really didnt change much of anything but your appearance. The final complaint is that the game is WAAAAY to short! I have been told that Fable: The Lost Chapters is better and longer, with all the missing content from the original Fable. I did enjoy playing and beating Fable but it left much to be wanted. Rent it, don't buy it.

Fable Is The BEST!

Reviewed by swervey on May 02, 2007  |  report this review

Fable is one of my most favorite games to play. I did beat it pretty fast, but it's only because I played it 24/7. The fact that you can choose to be good or evil is an awesome thing, reminded me of an old CPU game called Angel Devoid. It is challenging and one of the games that I recommend in buying, just for the classic factor. I'm sure if I busted this out 10 years from now I would still have fun with it!

Fable is easily the greatest game i have ever played on any console in the history of ever. the storyline, the graphics, the character, the fighting, everything was fantastic. the only bad thing i could say about the game was that the last fight was a bit of a push over, but other than that the game was perfect. it is deffinitely one of those games you can't stop playing until you're forced to, and when you're away, all you can do is think about getting home and playing it. a must get for anyone with an xbox or even an xbox360

Best Game Ever!

This game surpasses any I've ever played, and as a game developer I've played a lot of em.

Graphics - 4/5 Very Sleek look to it.

Game play - 4.5/5 Astounding. Almost every action in-game is based on a choice, like real life.

Replay Value - 5/5 You can play it through every time being something different.

Controls - 4/5 A little complicated at first, but you get the hang of it quickly.

Side Quests - 5/5 Lots of things to do aside from the main story.

Story - 3.5/5 Very in depth, though short. If you rush through the main story it's only about 6-7 hours long.

Total Value - 5/5 Easily the greatest game I've ever played. With so many possibilities, I could play it forever!
I recommend this game to anyone who owns an X-box, although if you can, I suggest buying the lost chapters for the extra features.

Though A Letdown, Terrific

Learning Curve: 7- With so much to do in the game expect to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the many skills and spells and also basic social interaction. I don't think you need to have "1337 g4/\/\3R" skills to fight and advance in the game, but the fighting system might take a bit of practice and the game gives you tutorials early in the game.

Replay Value: 9- The standard storyline will have the limitations of what it is, but if you stray from the intended path you can play the game many times altering your persona to be good or evil. Slaughter merchants or be a dastardly polygamous the possibilities can go on and on.

Difficulty: 5- This game has an average level of difficulty from what I can tell. With proper training and skill purchase most enemies shouldn't pose a problem.

Pros: Versatile gameplay, awesome graphics, hilarious dialogue, addictive gameplay, and interesting follow through storyline.

Cons: Main character is as imagined "generic" to permit versatile play, camera angle with bow can get jumbled, D button controls are sloppy, and "noble" heroes will have to be careful for villagers wanting a part in battles with monsters and I often found myself accidentally hacking the occasional merchant.

Time Expected to Invest: As much time as you want, but I imagine most people will find a good month or so of solid play before they are off to another title. I think I will enjoy this title for a bit longer though.

Overall: 9- I admit I really like this game, but I'm trying to keep the casual gamer and expectations in mind when I rated this over all. I think some will be disappointed by the gameplay not being as "versatile" as many thought it would be, but really if there wasn't some kind of guided story involved for more "linear" gamers you'd just have a pet character on a game that would wonder around aimlessly with no direction. I like the option to do either in this game and I think many gamers will feel the same. Was this game too overly hyped? Perhaps, but I am still satisfied with the outcome. Is it a disappointment? No, disappointment is getting ready for the second time for a lunch date only to have the person inform you when they call that they are too "tired" to meet that commitment. I swear I had to get ready, drive into the city, and wait until she got off again and then... sorry off topic. Anyway, no I was satisfied by this game and that is enough for me to consider my purchase worthwhile. I recommend this title and I think while not "revolutionary" the game brings something new and fresh to gaming.

Honestly, It's Not That Bad.

So...Fable was a game promised by it's creator (Peter Molyneux) to be the best RPG ever, of all time. Now, when you hear this you are probably saying "LIES!". Well, I too was saying "LIES!" the first time I hear about it. Now, when the game came out lets just say it didn't live up to hype. No free roam, you really couldn't customize your character that much and it had some cliche plot line. Now, let's get down to the very basic ratings of the game.

Graphics 10/10
Ok, like I said I'm not a graphics snob, but I LOVE the graphics in this game. The civilians have unique designs, the main character looks amazing in any hairstyle you apply to him and the buildings and environments look awesome.

Plot 7/10
MEDIOCRE! This game's plot is really quite...Stupid. An evil lord who owns like the entire continent, attacks your village and because of this you are taken to a guild, grow up and become a hero to kill this evil dude. However, the game does have it's good moments every now and then.

Gameplay 9/10
Ok, so now I'm actually saying something about gameplay in my review. The controls are smooth, from using your sword, to bow and arrow. The game has the basic "A to interact" interface and the game's menu has a nice navigation from place to place, it is very smooth.

In my opinion of replayability, 10/10.

So buy it, or rent it because it only takes 6 to 10 hours to beat.

If you have been waiting a year(or 2) to plant and seed into the ground and watch it grow into a giant tree. You may be disappointed with Fable But if you never heard anything about it before buying the game you amazed at Fable. Its so realistic in every way. You can even get a get a tan, yes a tan. But what I love the most is the fact that the hero's journey spans his whole life. You actually see the hero getting older and older. While the controls are slightly awkward its not to bad. Overall Play Fable. I love this game, though it takes some disconcerting twist through out, like going to jail, loved ones dying, etc. Good game with multiple storylines that change, depending on your actions.

There are many things to do and you can choose evil or good. But some missions you can't be evil and you pretty much can't get anywhere if your evil ,except if you have beaten game before(I love raiding Oakvale) Overall i think it is a great title and any RPG lover should play.
