Interesting Mix

Puzzle Quest is a mix between a RPG and Bejeweled. I like both genres of games but never thought of the two being in one game.

Basically you have a character that you create and play in a world that is being attacked by the undead. The Queen has asked for you assistance but you are still young and need training.

The RPG elements are similar to the online game Adventure Quest. You put points into different traits to upgrade your character like most RPGs. There is a castle that you call home that you can upgrade to give you mounts, special made weapons, a dungeon for the captured enemy, etc...
You can also learn new spells, that you learn from captured enemies. This is learning is handled by playing a different version of the puzzle game.

The battles are handled like Bejeweled. You match 3 or more jewels to to get the effect of the jewel. Say you match 3 reds, you get red mana that can be used to launch and attack against your enemy. If you match 4 or more jewels, you get the effect of the jewel and a free turn. This type of battle is more fun than I thought that it would be. I find myself playing for hours and need to make myself walk away.

The 360 version has online LIVE play and from what I have seen this is the best version of the game.

If you are a fan of RPGs and love puzle games like Bejeweled you need to at least try the free demo and see what you think. Most Live Arcade games leave me bored after a few sessions, but so far this one is something I enjoy coming back to, even if only for one battle at a time.
